One A-frame in the pines at New Theed, with the Zabarwan ridge behind it and nobody else on the land. A double-height glass gable, two bedrooms with their own bathrooms, and a deck that catches the first light of the morning.
We built The Bear Cottage ourselves and opened it in 2026. The glass gable is pointed at the ridge on purpose: on a clear morning you can watch the light come down off the Zabarwan without leaving the bed.
There are two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom attached, and an air conditioner in each that keeps the room warm through the winter and cool in July. Below them the floor is one open room — kitchen, dining table, and the glass.
The name comes from the black bears in Dachigam, which begins a few minutes up the road. We have not had one at the window yet, and we are in no hurry — but the valley is theirs as much as ours, and the logo says so.
There is one cottage on the land, so while it is yours the whole place is quiet. No reception, no corridor, and no one else's car in the drive.

What a night costs depends on the season and how long you stay — Chillai Kalan is not June, and a week is not a weekend. Send us your dates and we will reply with the exact figure, with breakfast already in it. Your dates are reserved once you confirm with an advance, and the balance is settled at the cottage.
